Why Lisbon?

Lisbon, the city of seven hills

Lisbon, the city of seven hills, has a story as rich as the golden light that bathes its streets. Imagine this: centuries ago, a small fishing village sat quietly along the banks of the Tagus River. Over time, it would grow into one of Europe's most fascinating capitals.

In the 15th century, brave Portuguese explorers like Vasco da Gama set sail from Lisbon, charting new courses to Africa, Asia, and beyond. These journeys brought back spices, silks, and stories of far-off lands, making Lisbon a wealthy and cosmopolitan city. The grandeur of that era still echoes in places like the Belém Tower and the Jerónimos Monastery, which stand proudly by the river.

But Lisbon's story isn't just about glory and gold. In 1755, a devastating earthquake, followed by a tsunami and fires, nearly destroyed the city. In the wake of the disaster, Lisbon was rebuilt with a new vision. The wide, grid-like streets of the Baixa district were designed to withstand future quakes, a testament to the resilience of its people.
